The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) which runs under the Government of India was established in 1992 as ‘The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources’. During the 1970s when there were sufficient resources available, energy self-sufficiency was classified. Then in March 1981, the unforeseen increment in the price of oil led to the creation of a Commission for Additional Sources of Energy in the Department of Science and Technology.

Again a new department was formed for the coordination and strengthening of Research and Development (R&D) that was the Department of Non-conventional Energy Sources (DNES) in 1982. And DNES, in the year 1992, became The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. Finally, MNRE got its official name in October 2006. Hence, The formation of this ministry is to advance new and renewable energy to improve the energy necessities of the country.

Indian Biogas Association (IBA) was initially established in 2011 and revised in 2015 for proper prospect through biogas. Well, IBA is also known as the Largest Biogas Network in the whole of India. How much of India’s energy is produced by renewable energy companies in India?

The Government of India has set the aim of installing 175 GW of renewable power by 2022. This shows that the Government of India is constantly bound to increasing the use of clean energy sources. According to the sources, the projects are being undertaken to promote green energy in India. Apart from the government, Private companies are overtaking the production of power generating assets.

Due to the heavy production, India’s renewable energy sector expects to draw investment worth $80 Billion in the upcoming years. It is because 49% of electricity will be generated through renewable powers. As a result, 66% of the total solar energy cost will be reduced as compared to the current cost. Also, coal will be replaced chiefly. This will save up to US $8.43 billion annually. Renewable energy will account for 55% of the total installed power capacity by 2030.

While the Private Renewable energy company ReNew Power and Shapoorji Pallonji is working on a large floating solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. They will be investing around US $0.11 Billion in a 150 MW. Similarly, Tata Power has recently announced plans to develop a 100 MW in Dholera solar park in Gujarat. Massive investments are being made in the renewable sectors by private organizations. The competition is at its peak. For now, Adani Group is focusing on being the World’s largest solar company by 2025 and the biggest renewable energy firm by 2030.


The Government of India has been constantly bound on increasing the use of clean energy sources. This does increase a better future and at the same time creates employment opportunities too. According to The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India’s total installed capacity of renewable energy is 90 GW excluding hydropower. Also, it states that 27.41 GW will be added.
